The current co-managing partner and a partner since 1981, Blair has been with the firm since 1975. As a chartered professional accountant, he specializes in real estate, real estate development and insurance while providing accounting and auditing services to owner-managed businesses, hotels, not-for-profit organizations and condominium corporations. Blair is also a certified financial planner, helping owner-managed businesses and professionals achieve their long-term financial goals while acting as a resource to his colleagues at McCay Duff in the area of personal financial planning. Blair also holds the prestigious position of Chairman-Elect of the International Board of JHI, a global network of accountants and business advisors committed to achieving consistent local excellence in the delivery of services to their clients. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Ottawa where he is a Paul Harris Fellow; past president and chair of many committees. Blair also served as the building committe chair for the planning and construction of a $110 000 000 project including the construction of a 2000 seat sanctuary for a local church. A little-known fact about Blair is that he wanted to become an airline pilot but the Canadian Air Force stopped recruiting just as he graduated from high school. (He did however, once get to sit in the navigator’s seat during a landing at Heathrow.)

Marg first connected with McCay Duff as a co-op student in the mid-1980s, becoming a full-time employee after she graduated in 1988. She earned her Canadian Investment Manager desgination in 1998 and now serves a diverse range of clients, from owner-managed businesses and professionals to not-for-profit organizations. Marg is also trained in alternative dispute resolution and involved in the firm’s education programs to prepare accounting students for their Common Final Examinations. She currently serves as the president of the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County and lists among her hobbies boating, travelling and golfing.

Jason Howarth, B.COMM, CPA, CA

Jason was originally employed at McCay Duff from 1993 to 1997. After receiving his CA designation, he spent several years with a mid-size accounting firm in Toronto before returning to McCay Duff in 2002 and becoming a partner in 2007. As well as business consulting, Jason provides tax advice and business valuations for individuals and companies. He also works with a number of not-for-profit groups and credit unions on a range of issues including fund managementand administration. An avid golfer and cyclist, Jason is a strong contributor to our staff-training program and is heavily involved in maintaining high standards of quality within our office.

Karen Freake, B.COMM, CPA, CA

After launching her career in Newfoundland with a national accounting firm in 1990 and then running her own practice beginning in 1998, Karen joined McCay Duff in 2003, becoming a partner six years later. Her focus since joining the firm has been on providing accounting, auditing and taxation services to business, not-for-profit organizations and condominum corporations. She has served as secretary and treasurer of numerous charitable organizations including associations specifically related to condominium corporations. As a volunteer, Karen is involved with her church, local food banks and a variety of children’s recreational sports programs. When not at the office, Karen enjoys running, tennis and volleyball. In 2010, Karen successfully completed her first half-marathon race.

Ryan Miller, B.COMM, CPA, CA

Ryan brings to the table expertise in accounting and auditing, business consulting, tax preparation and planning and became a partner of the firm in 2012. With his Baccalaureate in Commerce Honours Accounting from the University of Ottawa, Ryan is also a part-time practice inspector for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. When not at the office, Ryan likes to spend time playing and coaching competitive soccer, skiing and volunteering. For four years, he served on the board of the Gloucester Hornets (Gloucester Soccer Association) and was a coach with the Hornets for 10 years. He is also a member of the board of directors of Carleton Condominium Corporation No. 551.

Dianna Larkin, BBA, CPA, CA

Dianna joined the firm as a senior manager in 2010 and became a partner in 2013. A graduate of Acadia University, Dianna holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree as well as her designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant. She thoroughly enjoys working with business owners as their trusted advisor providing advice that helps them run successful businesses and reach their goals. In additional to providing accounting and tax services she also provides business consulting services, including: cash flow projections, due diligence reviews for clients considering a business purchase, as well as assistance with arranging financing for business acquisition and/or growth. She also has a growing specialty working with dental professionals. Dianna is a strong believer in giving back to the community and her volunteer activities include mentoring youth in her church as well as being a member on the Finance and Audit Committee of St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa. Little-known fact: Dianna has had her motorcycle license since she was 16 years old.

Since joining the firm in 2004, Greg has offered clients his business expertise in tax preparation and planning, U.S. tax services and on issues related to the GST/HST. His expertise in taxation and GST/HST issues is supported by the two in-depth courses he took through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. When not enjoying off-time activities such as ball hockey, baseball or golf, Greg enjoys the outdoors where he likes to hike, canoe and camp.
